Yes, excellent add-on Lou. Having proper material to jot down ideas is a smart thing to have.

You never know when simple quick ideas can become pieces of musical work.

Here is a little additional tip about chords - listen to the Beetles.

They really were an above average song writing team. And their use of harmony, chords and solid music theory stood out.

There really is more than one way of getting from one part of a song to another. Try going different ways, and remember if it sounds terrribly wrong - it probably is!

Do not be afraid to invert chords. Progressing from one to another can often be helped by an inversion. A very simple example is moving from, say, C to F. Try C - C/E - F.

Okay, not very exciting, but you can quickly hear how the mood is changed from simply leaping one to another. If you want to make if bluesier, try C7/E in the middle. Again, a very subtle change, but suddenly it is a different song.

Have fun

If in doubt, sing the Blues!

Are your private guitar lessons expensive? In most cases, lessons range from 20 to 50 dollars depending on whether it is 30-minute or 1-hour sessions. Usually weekly regiments of private guitar lessons tend to follow a couple of year program. Doing the math, that equates to a whopping $1920.00 for a two-year program and could cost you as much as 4800 bucks. Many guitar learning software packages offer very good value for the money and most if not all have a cost that is considerably less than traditional lessons. Some of these software programs even have incremented regiments that are very similar to the private lessons that you may be accustom to.
