Gibson Les Paul Standard"Originally made in the early 1950's Les Paul guitars have always remained a contender in top of the line quality guitars. And the Standard is nothing short of that."

Price:
$350-$500 from www.musiciansfriend.com, www.ebay.com, www.music123.com and www.wwbw.com.
All have the roughly the same price range. The average price for the best quality that I would recommend would be one for $400 max.

Sound:
Sounds and plays great. No problems here. You really get a great feel for the guitar, especially with its sound. (Rating: 9 out of 10)

Build Quality:
Standard made guitar. Gets the normal wears and tears with prolonged use after a few years. Seems to get scratches and dents easier than other guitars. (Rating: 8 of 10)

Features:
It comes with all the standard and required gear needed. Plus extra.

  • Mahogany/alder body
  • Carved maple top
  • Rosewood fingerboard with trapezoid fret inlays
  • Chrome-covered humbuckers
  • Cream body and fretboard binding
  • Chrome hardware
  • Slick look!
(Rating: 9 out of 10)

Reliability:
Sounds and works great after many times of use in gigs and practices.
Just the wearing and tearing that diminish this fine product. (Rating: 8 of 10)

Overall:
Phenomenal guitar, especially for the more advanced journeyman guitarist. You can get all of your tones humming with this guitar. (Rating: 9 out of 10)

Total user(s) rating = 8.6 out of 10.

Oh yeah - well said caprico4 - its a lookie likie - Epi from somewhere East of Poland!!

Get your act together.

Get a real one and a wide strap to go with it, do some weight lifting and prepare for tired shoulders - they're heavy and wonderful. Lots of models, lots of tricks, try one, try ten, find what you like - they aren't all the same - you can love one and hate another for the same four figure wad of money.

If you get a good one and you love it and it's sound - KEEP IT - it you trade it in for something else you'll regret it - a good Les Paul is a keeper.

If you want to rock - take a look at a Firebird - a bit neck heavy, but they look great and wow what a sound.
