Electro-Harmonix Big Muff

Electro Harmonix Big Muff Review"One of the most know distortions of all time, and used by many artists such as David Gilmour, Carlos Santana, Jack White, John Frusciante is the Electro-Harmonix Big Muff. This little box (or should I say big box), has been in the market for over thirty years and can easily be recognized by it's unique thick and creamy sound that few distortions regardless of price range can match."

Price:
Around $70 to $80 dollars at www.samash.com, www.zzsounds.com, and www.musiciansfriend.com. Completely worth it!

Features:

The most beautiful feature a pedal can have apart from good sound is a True Bypass, and this pedal has it. (The USA Big Muff pedals feature this feature if made after 2004)

  • True Bypass
  • Volume knob
  • Tone knob which ranges into the very extremes as far as tone goes
  • Sustain Knob
  • LED indicator light to indicate whether the pedal is ON/OFF
  • Works on batteries, or AC adapter

True bypass and a wide range of tones. (Rating: 10 out of 10)

Sound:
This pedal has a beautiful thick creamy sound found on many songs, including the godlike tone of the solos in Pink Floyd's "Comfortably Numb", or "Hey You". It can go very fuzzy too, ala Smashing Pumpkins fuzz tone. It can also do the well sustained beautiful rich tone on Carlos Santana's "Black Magic Woman", and it can even do the Blues. It can also do metal riffs, like "Call of Ktulu". The Big Muff has it all as far as sound. The true bypass feature also keeps your tone intact while the unit is off, which is something the competition lacks. (Rating: 10 out of 10)

Build Quality:
Very durable, but also very big. Nowhere near as big as it sounds but big nonetheless. It is slightly bigger than two boss pedals put together, but it sounds better than two boss pedals put together so it's worth it. Larger than the competition, hence score. (Rating: 7 out of 10)

Reliability:
Built to last and with true bypass always keeping my signal great. (Rating: 10 out of 10)

Overall:
Perhaps the best pedal ever made. My favourite without a doubt. (Rating: 10 out of 10)
