Hi friends, Major Triad Chords are built to a formula, here again the chart I posted will help. They are built on the 1st 3rd & 5th degree of the scale so it is easy to ascertain what notes make up any major chord.

C= C E G D= D F# A E= E G# B

At this point I realise I did not include "E" in my chart so here it is to add.
I will see if I can add to the original shortly


E F# G# A B C# D# To continue.


F= F A C G= G B D A= A C# E B= B D# F#

To make any of the above a 7th you just add the seventh note from the appropriate line.


Here are some other formula's see if you can work some out.

Augmented + 1st 3rd & shapenned 5th

Caug= C E G# Daug= D F# A# Gaug= G B D#


Diminished Chords built on 1st Flattened 3rd and flatened 5th


Cdim= C Eb Gb An interesting thing with dimished chords is that all of them are covered over 4 frets. This is because evry note in the diminished chord can be the chord name i.e. The diminished shape at fret 1 = Ebdim D#dim Cdim Adim Gbdim F#dim. any of these.

Diminshed chords are a useful substitute for 7thb9 E.G C7b9 = Gdim. (Diminished shape at second fret.) For any 7thb9 just count 5 along the line and use the diminshed. E.G D7b9= Adim.

I will close there I have more info but don't want to ram it in one item as it can get a bit overwhelming if you are not used to it.
