Hi Friends, Why substitute chords you may say.? Well in some cases some chords are difficult to finger especially for newer players and these substitutes are not meant to replace the genuine article as it were, but to help until you can master the original.

We have spoken about keys and I have also posted a key chart that will help you find your own although I will list some here for you.

Take any Major 7th chord ,to substitute this chord we would count 3 along the key line.. and use a minor...for example say you saw FMaj7 it may be daunting for newer ones but lets see how the above formula helps us here.
write down the "F" key line F G A Bb C D E Note the third in the line is "A" and so we can play Aminor instead of Fmaj7...and so on in any key this formula works. Here are a few. If you were replacing a Fmaj9th you would use the same formula but then play the Minor 7th. i.e. Fmaj9 =AM7

Cmaj7=EM Dmaj7= F#M Emaj7=G#M Amaj7=C#M Bmaj7=D#M Dbmaj7=FM Ebmaj7=GM Gbmaj7=BbM Abmaj7=CM BbMaj7=DM
