I just thought this might be an interesting little idea that could be fun for a few people.
The idea, is to post up a recording of a little bit of a jam you put together. I think the jam should consist of a part that has been planned and practiced, whereas a second part should be strictly jam style. I mean, just something that is done on the spot.
I think this would be fun to do really. It'd give a bit of insight into everyone's playing style, and simply who they are for the most part. Tell me what ya'll think. I'll post up something of my own when I get back to my recording equipment. Which should be on the 23rd.
If you need a place to post up a song, check out the topic at the top of the forum.

I had this really long and detailed review of the song. All typed out, well-thought, and very positive. But my computer glitched and it got deleted.
So, I'll just some it up:
That song was very well done, incredible even. The guitar was done well, lined up perfectly, and it fused togethr greatly. Its only a shame I heard no lyrics. But it was still nice.

i cannot come up with lyrics very well and the way my voice sounds doesn't flow very well with my guitar playing
alas singing is not my cup of tea

quick note, i just visited your myspace and was very impressed with your style, which is very much a type of music i like
if you want some good music that sounds like you, check out Nick Drake, particularly the 'Pink Moon' album

Thanks alot John. I've been really iffy on that recording for a while now, since my voice didn't line up exactly where I wanted it to at times, and there isn't as much of a dynamic note range that I've developed with the song now.
I will be sure to check that guy out soon.
P.S.
When I record things, I record both my voice and guitar at the same time, on the same track. That's possibly a reason why my recordings are never professional sounding.

oh yeah i record vocals while i play my guitar too, unfortunetly my vocal works are a barren sea which the fishermen cannot yield profit
i think recording everything all at once if possible brings more of a live feel to the music, making it sound less 'produced' like my track on soundclick is all my playing. since i cannot record myself playing every instrument at once it sounds more produced because every part is played to my styling when i listened to the other tracks being played

Yeah, I can understand that. My favorite stuff has always been live recordings myself. I just really wish I could get a band together is all.
edit: Plus, you shouldn't be too worried about your voice. You heard mine, and it is by NO means good.

I've tried both ways. My latest efforts have been to record the guitar first and then add the vocal. It sounds like most of us suffer from not having the greatest singing voices. If I try recording voice and guitar at the same time, I keep finding one or the other suffering. It's kind of funny since I can manage OK if I'm not recording. I need to get my tracks in sync anyway, since the next thing I plan to do is add a fiddle to my songs. I really need to get a better setup too. Currently I'm using Audacity (free) software, and a USB microphone that I paid less than $20 for about 3 years ago. Maybe expensive recording software will make me play and sound better. Ha! fat chance.

If you really look into it, there are some decent condensor mics that go for around $50. I got hold of one myself, works wonders. Also, if you get one like that, you'd probably end up needing a reducer plug unless you've got one of the new graphics cards. A mixer wouldn't hurt either.
Sorry, I was slowly painting my dream of a little recording studio at home. My bad. Anyway, overall, you can get a half-way decent condenser mic for a cheap amount, as well as getting a reducer plug, which is only about 5-10$.
