TOPIC: Start it off...

In an attempt to try and get this forum in some more discussion and such, I thought it would just be right to start up a new topic.

The point of this topic, is to disucss who you consider to be the greatest musician. By this, I don't mean the greatest guitarist, but the overall greatest musician. I feel there is a drastic difference in these two, and being a wonderful musician could mean that you don't even know how to play the guitar.

I personally feel that Andre Segovia is up in the running for the greatest musician. He revolutionized the guitar, made it acceptable for all, and created such wonderful works of music. I know this seems to almost contrdict what I mentioned before about one not needing to play guitar, but I truely feel that he is both one of the greatest guitarists and musicians to ever grace this world.

Jimi Hendrix...maybe not the greatest musician but he influenced a lot of other great musicians to become great. He is right up there in my opinion.

WE ought to be talking about the rebels then... here's what i think.

The biggest icon there is in rock music is Jimi Hendrix, hands down. He should be made the patron saint for rock artists. He showed a gazillion of sounds which a simple guitar could do, which this planet would not have known if it were not for him. Rock music owes him, bigtime.

If we are to talk about legends, John Lennon's name would also be one of the first to come to mind. Lennon was simply a genius songwriter, who was never afraid to experiment and try new sounds without compromising himself. His popularity (or notoriety) and good looks can never outweigh the undeniable impact that he has had to the music industry in general.

Bob Marley too, is I think a trademark in himself, particularly in reggae. Not as popular as the 2 abovementioned as his music caters to a specific market, but that's exactly the point of his music. It was part of his purpose - make music, stay true to his heritage and put reggae in the map of the music world. And that's exactly what he did, among other things.

I think these are the three greatest rebels the music industry has ever produced.
