Changing Key (Modulation) - 2007/01/27 12:06
Hi fellow pickers & Strummers. Here is a small tip for changing key whilst playing (Known as modulation) It is a very simple procedure to move from say "C" to "G" or any other key,all you have to do is change from the current key (C) by going to the dominant seventh of the new key.....for example if you were going to change from C to G from C you would go to D7 the dominant seventh of the key of "G" and continue, you can change to any key whatever just go to the dominant seventh of the new key. If you are not sure of the dominant 7th it is always found at the 5th degree of the scale....I know that sounds confusing but we are now talking about scale. here are a couple of examples for you.
We will use "C" first

Note that the 5th degree of the scale is "G" therefore the dominant 7th chord of "C" is G7
Scale of "A"

A B C# D E F# G# A
So in the Key of "A" we see the 5th degree is "E" so E7 is the dominant seventh.
Of course you can also use the above to determine what makes the chord of say "C7 "Obviusly C with an added seventh note of the scale in this case "B"
So the notes C E G and B =C7.
