I try to like Steve Vai, I do like a lot of his music, and playing, but there's something MIDI going on with his sound which, for me spoils his great talent. Nearing the end of this piece there's some super cool playing .
As far as Jimi Hendrix covers, I personally have to go to Stevie Ray vaughn. Nevertheless we all hear differently, and I hate things such as Music to be judged as "The best" , etc.

Yeah, I've got this on DVD and I watched the commentary version. Apparently, they didn't have a proper meeting with the film crew before the show and the camera guys basically did loads of arty angles, out of focus stuff. they missed a lot of his actual playing too (as in, you couldn't see his fretting hand half the time).
He was annoyed to say the least!
