Hey Rikki,
What exactly is the battleplan for bringing new members to this site?
I'd like to help out as coming here just leads me to clicking the forum button to look for new posts or the home button to see if new users are online
Also it seems that you, shane, and i are the only members that are on all the time, which leads me to think that boredom has struck some of the regulars. anyways i'd like to hear your strategy whenever you have time to give me the word.
Cheers, John
That's the PM John sent me... Anyway, first of all, I've put a "Who's Online" at the top of the forum now so people can see who's on! - Thanks for the great idea John!
As far as getting new members, beats me! How did GTU or Ultimate-Guitar do it? We have to remember that nowerdays Google (the main guys for allowing sites on the web if you will) prevents new sites from getting too good too quick.
This is supposed to stop illegal spammers for drugs/casino's etc doing well straight away...
This is why our site has only just been "properly" recognised by Google, hence the page rank (PR) of 4 they gave GuitarTools.co.uk. So even though the site is almost 4 months old, it has only just realy got on the web... and it'll take a while for it to permiate through it... if you get me.
The best way is to link to it from other sites and advertise GuitarTools.co.uk (I've already done loads of link exchanges with decent music sites - still need all the random little one's to link to us as well though, as this builds our PR and hopefully traffic)
So, we almost have 60 members now - probably not quite enough to sustain a constant(ish) community - and remember, its a forum not an instant chat room....! I read that somewhere on GTU cos some guy was complaining of no reply!
Over and out, Rikki

That sounds like its best way to go about doing things, linknig on other websites that is. I know I could probably get another steady member on the site. He's a friend of mine who I'm teaching guitar too, he'd probably get a kick out of this site, since it is really quite laid back.
I thik something we might want to work on is really getting some more on the site. I mostly mean, maybe we should try getting some more lessons up, and even try and think of a few other things as well. I was considering doing a little video thing with songs/chords of some sort. Like doing a video of my attempting to play something, showing only the neck, so people could get a better idea of a sound/visual of what they need.
I think that if a couple of guys could each do a little video, if it's possible to to technology ownage. I think it could really help get more members/poeple to start looking at the site in a whole new light. Just my ideas.

if you could get the video lesson to work, i'd be interested in using your method, as my family owns a video camera (mini dv or something like that type of camera, records on double thick cassette tape sized tapes) and could record something, but wouldn't know how
anyways if we figure out a way to link to sites without having to be renagades (banned from forums for adverts) please let me know...

Videos sound good but it would eat into my sites bandwidth, ie how much people can download per month (including pages views)
But, if we could do a video and upload it onto one of those sites I mentioned before, that would work! Many sites do it and i doesn't use our bandwidth... ie Youtube/ google video etc.
Personally, I don't have a convenient way of recording videos so I'm out - but feel free, it sound very good!
Possibly a lesson with a video in the middle or something!
And yes, I need to get more lessons (and possibly sort them into order etc)
Also, linking from anywhere will benefit us, like MySpace, Blogger etc or even forum signatures... I think I'll take care of organising the main link exchanges though so I can keep tabs on it!
This is a bit checky, but google has introduced rel="nofollow", and if that is used with a link on my site (even links in forums- automatically added!) it doesn't hurt our PR if we link out! I have coded it into the forum and the link exchange page!
Oh and Shane, go ahead and invite your ate - more the merrier! Whats his name?

His name is actually John. We call him Johnny B alot of the time. But that's mostly because we can never remember how to correctly spell his last name.
